When the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Boston Celtics on June 17th, 2010, the celebration of some of the fans got out of hand. A small group chose to commit assault and arson, setting fire to a taxicab, smashing windows, throwing objects at others fans as well as police officers, and slashing tires. Two years, later, D.C. is facing an arraignment next month. If convicted, he could be facing four years in state prison for felony arson. The 22-year-old had been caught on camera lighting the taxi on fire during the celebration. Investigators are also seeking five other men who were on the same tape. By slowing down and freezing the footage, they were able to decipher faces, clothing, and even tattoos.
Authorities have stated this type of behavior will not have tolerated. When the Lakers won the championship the following year in 2011, there were police ready to deal with the drunken and violent crowd. Their preparedness prevented the same scenes from being repeated and they have stated that they will do the same thing this year if the Lakers win again.
D.C. stated that he got caught up in the celebration that night.
